City Healthy Futures Committee
In
Camden the Office of Urban and Community Development
is a lead member of Camdenbased organizations and agencies
called the Camden
City Healthy Futures Committee whose purpose is to
encourage a constructive and continuing dialogue toward developing
a sustainable and effective health care delivery network in
the city. The committee is dedicated to help make health a

Institute
for the Elimination of Health Disparities
The
Office has had a key role in the effort to create the Institute
for the Elimination of Health Disparities at UMDNJ
empowered to addresses the significant disparities that exist
between various racial and ethnic groups. This statewide research
initiative engages and fosters continual research that will
lead to a better understanding of the social economic
and cultural causes for these disparities and seek to identify
strategies to address and eliminate them.
The
Institute was formally accepted approved and ratified
by the UMDNJ Board of Trustees on May 15 2001 and has
since released its Strategic Plan 20012004 which outlines
seven goals that address conducting research directing
activities to increase participation by presently underrepresented
ethnic groups in the health professions and in research; generating
and disseminating information about health disparities and
how to correct them; advocating healthcare policies based
on research findings; building the infrastructure of the Institute;
and promoting the missions of the Institute and the University.
The
goals and objectives of the Institute will be achieved through
a cooperative effort among the UMDNJ schools and the Department
of Urban and Community Development. Additional information
