Welcome Message from Senior Vice President/Chief Ethics & Compliance officer Bissey

Bret S. Bissey, FACHE, MBA, CHC
Senior Vice President/Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey

I appreciate the welcome that I have received from the UMDNJ community. As the University's Senior Vice President/Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, I am responsible with ensuring that UMDNJ has a robust corporate compliance program, which is consistent with all the effective compliance program criteria articulated in the U.S. Organizational Sentencing Guidelines (the "Federal Sentencing Guidelines") and the Supplemental Compliance Program Guidance for Hospitals issued by the Department of Health & Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (the "OIG Guidance"). These regulatory guidelines are the minimum starting point for our compliance and ethics program at UMDNJ.  In addition, we are obligated to operate our University consistent with the requirements of our 5 year Corporate Integrity Agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services as effective September 25, 2009.

This University is committed to the highest levels of ethics and compliance in its educational, clinical and community development mission. The Office of Ethics, Compliance and Corporate Integrity functions as a resource to help maintain a culture that promotes the prevention, detection and resolution of potential violations of law or internal University policies. In addition, UMDNJ's compliance program will be dynamic, focused upon providing collegial education and involved in regular review and assessment of applicable risk areas to assure compliant activities and behaviors are a day-to-day expectation and reality of our work environment.

My hope is that you will view the UMDNJ Office of Ethics, Compliance and Corporate Integrity as a resource for information on compliance needs, and as your partners in helping our fine organization reach its full potential.

I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely;

Bret S. Bissey, FACHE, MBA, CHC
Senior Vice President/Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer
