UMDNJ Announces Interim President
|
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Denise V. Rodgers, UMDNJ Executive Vice President for Academic and Clinical Affairs, to the position of Interim President of UMDNJ, effective January 1, 2012.
As Executive Vice President, Dr. Rodgers has led our academic and clinical operations since 2006. Prior to becoming Executive Vice President, she served as University Chief of Staff, and she remains a professor of family medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. In 1997, she joined the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School as Senior Associate Dean for Community Health. Prior to joining UMDNJ, Dr. Rodgers was professor and vice chair in the University of California, San Francisco Department of Family and Community Medicine and director of the San Francisco General Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Rodgers has devoted her career to effectively addressing health disparities among minority and underserved populations and communities. In 2010 she received the Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Physician's Award. Dr. Rodgers also serves on a number of local, statewide and national committees.
Dr. Rodgers received a Bachelor of Arts in psychobiology from Oberlin College. She graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed her family medicine training in the Residency Program in Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. Dr. Rodgers is board certified in family medicine and is a diplomate of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
We are fortunate to have such a distinguished leader in academic medicine and community health care leading UMDNJ at this critical time in our history. The Trustees are confident that she will serve the University with distinction to enhance the core missions of this academic health center and statewide asset.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Rodgers to her new role.
Sincerely,
Kevin M. Barry, MD
Chair, UMDNJ Board of Trustees
