November 4 update:

Newark, New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses will reopen with all academic and clinical programs on Monday, November 5. The inclement weather emergency on those campuses expires at 7 a.m. Monday. Scotch Plains will not reopen on Monday.

Fortunately, the following buildings also will now reopen Monday: Liberty Plaza, New Brunswick, and 1 World’s Fair Drive, Somerset. This is a change in anticipated status. Though we had previously announced that these buildings might not open, significant progress in the past day has now enabled us to open those buildings on Monday.

A number of vital University functions are housed in these buildings. As a precaution, selected staff for some of these functions are being contacted and asked to report to alternate locations on Monday. Everyone else should report to their normal work locations, unless otherwise notified.

As one example of a temporary service relocation, the IST Service Center will be operating at a remote location on Monday. If you are experiencing a critical issue related to clinical, research, or academic support, please dial 3-3200 or 732-743-3200. If you require a new service request, you should email your request to isthelp@umdnj.edu. All emailed requests will be triaged and handled once all critical issues are resolved.

Many of you have been personally impacted by the events of the past week. We have established a situational awareness webpage, updated daily, to provide you with information on how to find resources, assistance, and other vital materials to help you with recovery from this disaster. Please visit http://emergency.umdnj.edu/awareness.shtml.

We recognize the challenges many of you may face getting to your work locations. We continue to encourage people to carpool or use public transportation because of the gas crisis. By Executive Order, Gov. Christie implemented gas rationing on Nov. 3 -- on the basis of odd-even days -- in the following counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren. For more additional details, check this link: http://nj.gov/infobank/circular/eocc108.pdf

Please note the following resources for carpooling and transportation information:

In addition, our Newark campus shuttle bus service will increase the number of vehicles operating and the frequency of its bus routes, if needed, to accommodate additional train ridership.

We also point out that our planned resumption of services on Monday does not mean that all aspects of our infrastructure and the services we take for granted everyday will necessarily be functioning normally and without interruptions. We should anticipate that our phone, Internet and other services may experience occasional interruptions or fluctuations as service providers and the municipalities surrounding our campuses strive to stabilize the delivery of their services.

Anyone with questions should contact their supervisor or department head.

Thank you for your cooperation and stay safe.
