Overview top

Rapidly expanding clinical and research data sets provide the biopharma industry with highly prized information to guide drug discovery, development, marketing and surveillance. Understanding how to harness and utilize that information through bioinformatics is a key skill for today’s clinical trials professional. This online Certificate provides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical know-how necessary to make a meaningful contribution to research design, implementation and outcomes measurement.

The 15-credit online academic certificate program is structured to fit into the busy schedules of working professionals while maintaining the highest degree of academic rigor and faculty-student interaction. Click here to view courses for this certificate. Through graduate course work conducted by faculty at UMDNJ’s School of Public Health, School of Nursing, and School of Health Related Professions, you’ll be exposed to:

  • Development of computing systems to improve research designs and outcomes of clinical trials.
  • Design of databases for the collection of health outcomes, safety outcomes, claims, drug efficacy and adverse events.
  • Construction of models to aid in the conduct of post-marketing commitment (surveillance) studies.

(Instruction in Microarray Technology is included in this Certificate for appropriate students involved in trials that utilize these techniques to measure response based upon genomic expression.)

Who Should Apply?top

This Certificate is designed to meet the needs of clinical trials professionals who want to enhance their skills or are interested in transitioning to a new field in the industry – clinical database management specialists, clinical data coordinators, clinical systems analysts, project managers, and patient recruitment specialists, etc. It also benefits individuals with degrees in science, healthcare, pharmacy, computer science, public health and related disciplines who are interested in entering the field.
