OVERVIEWtop

The increasing recognition of the impact of Gastrointestinal and Liver Disorders has renewed emphasis among medical thought leaders and educators on the prevention, early diagnosis and management of the disorders. Continuing research has increased the number and variety of therapeutic agents directed at these advances in management,which will encourage performance improvement and maintenance of clinical competence.

TARGET AUDIENCEtop

This educational activity will be of interest to gastroenterologists and hepatologists, primary care providers, and others in the health profession interested in or involved in the healthcare of patients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders.

OBJECTIVES top

By participating in the symposium, participants will complete the following learning objectives:

  • Recognize the causes and cost-effective management of gastroesophageal reflux disorders, diagnosis of Barrett's epithelium, role of H. Pylori in peptic ulcers and use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and their impact on the GI tract.
  • Review pathophysiology, early diagnosis and management of ischemic bowel diseases.
  • Manage inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) effectively using conventional and novel biotherapies.
  • Explain the pathophysiology and effective management of constipation.
  • Assess and plan safe endoscopic procedures for patients on blood thinning products.
  • Become familiar with the pathogenesis and diagnostic work-up and provide medical treatment for gallstone disorders.
  • Plan appropriate work-up for pancreatitis and discuss new guidelines for the
    management of acute pancreatitis.
  • Review the current diagnosis and treatment for Hepatitis B and C.
