Search Full-Text of E-Journals

Most of our major databases, such as Medline (via PubMed or Ovid), search only subject, title, or abstract terms, but not the complete text of articles. However, some databases, publisher sites, or web tools do reach in and search within that text. Some of them are listed below.

Academic Search Premier
Use the drop-down menu under the Advanced Search tab (the default) to select the TX All Text field. You can also limit your results to Full Text under the Refine Search tab.

BioMed Central
The drop down menus in Advanced Search (default) offer the option to search just the text or specific parts of the text (such as methods). Results indicate whether articles are free, open access, or require a subscription.

Google Scholar
Using this link to Google Scholar, you can search the full-text of a wide range of journals and retrieve complete articles from many of the titles to which the UMDNJ Libraries subscribe. There are some major exceptions. Articles from journals published by LWW (Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins) are not available from the publisher's site and must be retrieved via UMDNJ Journals@Ovid. Similarly, articles from journals that are part of our subscription to Academic Search Premier and similar databases must be retrieved via the database. If you can't retrieve an article via Google Scholar, it is always a good idea to check Findit@UMDNJ to see if the journal it is available to you.
