Membership in the BCC

Members of the UMDNJ Board of Concerned Citizens are nominated by various groups and appointed by the chairperson of the UMDNJ Board of Trustees for a renewable term of two years. Officers consist of a Chair and Vice Chair, and over the years these positions have been held by both UMDNJ employees and by non-employee community residents and leaders. Approximately one third of the members are community residents who are consumers of healthcare in the UMDNJ system; one third are representatives of key civic organizations in the greater Newark area; and one third are UMDNJ employees or students. This latter group consists of members of the medical and dental school faculties, students, and non-faculty employees.

The main qualification for membership in the UMDNJ Board of Concerned Citizens is an understanding that the Newark community is the University's greatest and most potentially rewarding asset, and a willingness to work hard to fulfill its mandate to create and strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship between University and Community.
