is an advisory and assistance body, made up of a wide range of community leaders, local residents, and UMDNJ faculty, students, employees and administrators. It was organized in 1971 to facilitate the school's acceptance in the Newark area, and to provide an avenue for communication between the school and its Newark community. From the outset, the Board has played a crucial role in the creation and evolution of the facility now known as UMDNJ. It has taken a leadership role in the development of all facets of research, education and patient care, for both University Hospital and the University as a whole. The Board has a proud and ongoing history of involvement and activism in areas including clinical research parameters, university governance, human resources, facility planning, and scholarship issues. It is especially committed to advocacy, representing the concerns of patients, local residents, employees, students, and any members of the community whose rights, needs or suggestions deserve representation. Through its many activities, the UMDNJ Board of Concerned Citizens continues to serve as a conduit for information and a forum for conflict resolution between the University and its supporting community
