Use of Faculty Titles and University Stationery

When faculty use or authorize the use of their University faculty titles to identify themselves in connection with extra-University professional activities, they should assure that the University name and their faculty titles are used in a manner that does not imply University endorsement or responsibility for the particular activity, product or publication involved.

University affiliations and titles may not be used for advertising. In particular, it is against University policy for salaried or volunteer faculty to use their faculty titles in advertisements or other promotional materials for their private clinical or other professional practices, including advertisements and promotions on electronic information networks or Web sites. All advertisements and promotional materials for faculty in a University faculty practice plan must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Dean or Dean’s designee. Faculty participating in third-party Web sites or linking their electronic sites to other Web sites should be aware that information on linked Web sites might have the appearance of being endorsed by the faculty member unless accompanied by appropriate disclaimer statements.

Use of University stationery is limited to strictly official University business. Use for any personal or non-University-related communications, including outside activities such as businesses, hobbies or political activities, is prohibited.
