Out-of-Title Work for Faculty
Approval by the faculty member's home department chair or direct supervisor, if not the chair, and approval by the Vice President for Academic Affairs is required prior to the commencement of out-of-title work, by means of a special request form.
Out-of-title work by faculty is the performance of duties or provision of special services that are unrelated to the normal duties of the regular position. Ordinarily, the out-of-title work is performed at the request of a department and/or School other than the home department of the faculty member. Such work may not decrease the faculty member's efficiency or effectiveness in performing her/his regular duties, and may not be performed during the time when regular duties are expected to be performed.
Out-of-title requests for faculty holding visas must be reviewed by the Office of the University Registrar and International Services to ensure that the visa status of the faculty member permits work beyond the primary position held at the University.
Intra-School or department out-of-title requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, after detailed documentation of the reasons for the exception. Retroactive requests will ordinarily not be permitted.
