Tenure may be granted when merited upon or at any time following appointment or promotion to the rank of associate professor or professor, in accordance with the criteria and procedures set forth in the Bylaws for the Governance of the University and in the bylaws of the School. Faculty whose efforts are focused on research, clinical activities, education, administration, service or combinations of these are eligible for tenure.
Appointments, reappointments and promotions to the ranks of assistant professor, associate professor and professor may be made on either the tenure track or the non-tenure track or, in the case of associate professor and professor, with tenure.
Assistant professors appointed to the tenure track and who remain on the tenure
track shall have a formal review for tenure by their department chairs or division/program
directors no later than the tenth year after the appointment to the tenure track.
The result of the review may be recommendation of award of tenure, continuation
on the tenure track or a change to the non-tenure track.
