ISELIN — The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey invites entrepreneurs and business leaders to attend the 13th Annual Procurement Event and Luncheon on Monday, October 22, at the Sheraton at Woodbridge Place, 515 Route 1 South, Iselin. The free event will start at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. and the luncheon will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The purpose of the event, which is being hosted by UMDNJ’s Office of Supplier Diversity and Vendor Development, is to outline new university-wide policies on purchasing and supply chain strategy. This year’s theme is “A Day of Education and Training” and the workshops will focus on helping business leaders and entrepreneurs better understand the process of building and maintaining business relationships with the university.

During the morning sessions Dr. William F. Owen, Jr., president of UMDNJ, will address participants. Milton Hollar-Gregory, Esq., a member of UMDNJ’s Board of Trustees who also serves as interim chair on the board’s Diversity Committee, will serve as the keynote speaker during the luncheon. Special workshops have been created by the Supplier Chain Management Division headed by Thomas Kenyon, Vice President, to assist small, minority, and women-owned firms in doing more business with UMDNJ. According to Ernestine Watson, assistant vice president of the Office of Supplier Diversity and Vendor Development at UMDNJ, her department was established in 1986 and it is responsible for overseeing the university’s spending as it relates to opportunities for small businesses, which includes minority and women-owned firms who provide quality services. For more information, call Mrs. Katherine Gary at 973-972-6288. Online registration is also available at http://www.umdnj.edu/supplierdiversity/.

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) is the nation’s largest free-standing public health sciences university with more than 5,700 students attending the state's three medical schools, its only dental school, a graduate school of biomedical sciences, a school of health related professions, a school of nursing and a school of public health on five campuses. Annually, there are more than two million patient visits at UMDNJ facilities and faculty practices at campuses in Newark, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Scotch Plains, Camden and Stratford. UMDNJ operates University Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center in Newark, and University Behavioral HealthCare, a statewide mental health and addiction services network.
