NEWARK — Ronald McDonald House Charities of the New York Tri-State Area (RMHC-NYTSA) recently awarded $25,000 to the New Jersey Dental School to support the expansion of its Special Care Treatment Center, which provides dental care services to children and youth with special needs.

“The lack of access to dental services for special needs patients has long been recognized within the medical community as a serious problem,” said Cecile Feldman, DMD, MBA, dean of the school. “Often their oral health conditions are more complex than those of the general population. That’s why there are few organizations within the state that are willing or able to provide the space and services needed to administer dental care for this special population.”

The May grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities will help to equip an additional operatory room in the Special Care Treatment Center in Newark, which treats nearly 1,600 patients under 18 years old per year.

“We are so excited about the worthwhile programs that we are able to fund this year,” said Gerald McCoy, president of RMHC-NYTSA. “It’s wonderful to partner with New Jersey Dental School to better the community and to support programs that benefit children.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the New York Tri-State Area (RMHC-NYTSA ) is working to better the lives of children and their families in our communities by creating and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children in the areas of health, education, the arts and civic and social services.
