UMDNJ Board of Trustees Swears in Two New Members

NEWARK — The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Board of Trustees welcomed two new members today. Dr. Kevin M. Barry, an anesthesiologist, and Milton Hollar-Gregory, an attorney and law professor, were sworn in at today's regular meeting.
The two were recommended by Senate President Richard J. Codey under legislation signed last year by Governor Jon S. Corzine. A2900 expanded Board membership from 11 to 19 members.
"We are pleased to welcome two new and accomplished members to the UMDNJ Board," said Board Chairman Robert Del Tufo. "The talents and achievements of Dr. Barry and Mr. Hollar-Gregory will complement and contribute greatly to the Board as we continue to move the University forward."
Kevin M. Barry is an Attending Anesthesiologist at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He has served as president of Anesthesia Associates of Morristown since 1994. A Henry Rutgers Scholar, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Biochemistry from Rutgers College in 1983. He received his medical degree in 1987 from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Barry interned at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and then did an anesthesia residency at The New York Hospital and Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell Medical Center, where he served as the chief resident from 1990 - 1991. In 1995 he received a MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Dr. Barry is a Diplomate of The American Board of Anesthesiology, The American Board of Pain Medicine, and The American Board of Medical Acupuncture and is a Certified Physician Executive of The Certifying Commission in Medical Management.
“I am honored to have been asked by Governor Corzine and Senate President Codey to serve the students, residents, faculty, staff, and administration of UMDNJ,” said Dr. Barry. “As a graduate of Rutgers College and the New Jersey Medical School, I know intimately the value and greatness of the faculty of our state’s universities. Their dedication to their students, patients, research is unwavering. I will do my best to prove to New Jersey’s citizens that UMDNJ is the great institution I know it to be.”
Milton Hollar-Gregory is a graduate of Rutgers Law School and has more than 30 years of combined experience in law, health care, business and academia, with extensive experience in government healthcare programs, including Medicaid and Medicare. He recently consulted on matters of state health policy for Rhode Island's Department of Human
Services as it expanded managed care program to adults, uninsured, elderly and disabled. He has held various executive leadership positions in the public and private sector including New York City's Health and Hospital Corporation, Johns Hopkins Health System and Amerigroup Corporation the largest Medicaid only HMO in the country. His responsibilities in his various assignments have encompassed operations, strategic planning, network development, contracting and marketing and sales.
Mr. Hollar-Gregory is presently an Assistant Professor of business law and managerial studies with the City University of New York, where he is active in teaching, professional development and community service.

UMDNJ is the nation’s largest free-standing public health sciences university with more than 5,500 students attending the state’s three medical schools, its only dental school, a graduate school of biomedical sciences, a school of health related professions, a school of nursing and its only school of public health, on five campuses. Last year, there were more than two million patient visits to UMDNJ facilities and faculty at campuses in Newark, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Scotch Plains, Camden and Stratford. UMDNJ operates University Hospital, a Level I Trauma center in Newark, and University Behavioral HealthCare, a mental health and addiction services network.
