Dietary Supplements and Weight Loss: What’s Safe?

NEWARK — Some people associate the holiday season with weight gain and others try to find quick ways to shed unwanted pounds to fulfill their weight loss resolutions. A nutrition expert at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey will facilitate a discussion on the impact that dietary supplements can have on weight loss. The free presentation, which is open to the public and the media, will take place on Thurs., Nov. 9, at noon, at the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions, 65 Bergen Street, 3rd Fl. Auditorium, Newark. The presentation will be televised on the New Brunswick and Stratford campuses. Addresses are listed below.

The presentation, “Dietary Supplements Marketed for Weight Loss,” is sponsored by the Institute for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the Institute for Nutrition Interventions at the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions. Dr. Diane Rigassio Radler, an assistant professor in the Graduate Programs in Clinical Nutrition at the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions, will facilitate the one-hour presentation. She will offer advice on the safety and the effectiveness of taking dietary supplements.
