UMDNJ Employees and Students Celebrate Diversity on Harmony Day
- 16th Annual Harmony Day event will take place on Fri., May 5th -
NEWARK—The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey will celebrate the cultural diversity of its employees and students during the 16th Annual Harmony Day event on Friday, May 5, at 9 a.m. The celebration will take place at the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, 185 South Orange Avenue, Newark.
The Board of Concerned Citizens at UMDNJ is sponsoring Harmony Day as an opportunity for the UMDNJ family to display pride in its diverse cultures, respect for the dignity of others and support of racial and cultural harmony. Many employees and students will unite in the spirit of Harmony Day by dressing in royal blue or by wearing native garb that is symbolic of their ethnic background.
Several employees and students will create display tables using artifacts from their culture. Some of the places to be highlighted during Harmony Day include: Barbados, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Jamaica. Participants will taste foods from various ethnicities view displays of cultural artifacts.
