The Cancer Institute of New Jersey Hosts Sixth Annual Evening of Tribute
12/2/05—The Dean and Betty Gallo Prostate Cancer Center (GPCC) at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) held its Sixth Annual Evening of Tribute Gala Saturday, November 5, 2005. Twenty five thousand dollars was raised for prostate cancer outreach and education initiatives.
The Gallo Center's Evening of Tribute Gala recognizes individuals and organizations that are dedicated to the fight against prostate cancer. This year's honorees in leadership were Abbott Laboratories, David Feldman, M.D., Roni Desmond, Ph.D., Mary Mulholland, and The Jewish Renaissance Foundation. Dr. Robert DiPaola, executive director of the GPCC and professor of medicine, UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, was presented the First Robert DiPaola Research Award. This new award will be presented each year to a scientist conducting new cutting-edge prostate cancer research.
"We are proud to honor these advocates in the fight against prostate cancer," said Betty Gallo, Director of Public Outreach and Government Relations, GPCC. "It has been more than ten years since my husband Dean lost his battle with prostate cancer and I know he would be proud of the progress we have made in battling this devastating disease."
The event also featured a silent auction and entertainment by "The Happenings," who performed their famous hit "See you in September."
The GPCC is named for Congressman Dean A. Gallo who lost his life to prostate cancer in 1994 at the age of 58. At the GPCC, a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, medical, radiation and urologic oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurses and social workers are united in one goal - to eradicate prostate cancer.
