At University Day on September 16
UMDNJ President To Discuss State of the University

Dr. Stuart D. Cook, president of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), will present his annual State of the University report during ceremonies on September 16 at 1:30 p.m. on the Newark campus.

Dr. John Petillo, president of the Newark Alliance and chairman of the University's Board of Trustees, will preside over the annual event.

New Jersey Senator Ronald Rice will receive the University's Medal for Distinguished Leadership for his long-standing commitment to UMDNJ,

A Presidential Citation for Corporate Leadership will be presented to Eli Lilly and Company in recognition of its funding of the "Partners for Excellence in Psychiatry" program at UMDNJ-University Behavioral HealthCare which trains mental health professionals new psychosocial and diagnostic treatment approaches to help patients with mental illness gain control of their lives.

In addition, 11 faculty members will be inducted into the University's Master Educators Guild, an organization created four years ago by Dr. Cook to recognize teaching excellence; and three departments--two at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and one at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School--will receive awards for academic or research excellence over the past year.
