Dental Students Sponsors Community Oral Health Fair in Newark
Dental students at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of
New Jersey (UMDNJ) invite the public to attend a free oral health
fair on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Pathmark,
167 Bergen Street, Newark.
UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School's chapter of the Student National
Dental Association (SNDA) is sponsoring the Colgate Bright
Smiles, Bright Futures® dental
screening. SNDA members, who are part of the largest dental
organization for minority students, are coordinating the event
to encourage children to develop proper oral health habits.
Parents are encouraged to bring children under age 12 to meet
dentists and dental students from the UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental
School on the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures®
mobile unit. The oral health professionals will conduct free dental
screenings on children without the use of sharp instruments. The
dental students will use puppets during a demonstration on proper
brushing and flossing techniques. Free toothbrushes and toothpaste
will be distributed to the children who can also enjoy free popcorn,
balloons, and face painting.
For more information about the oral
heath fair, call Lezli Levene Harvell, SNDA community service
chairperson, at 917-566-8858.
